Jens Quistgaard

Jens Quistgaard: The Sculpting Designer is the first authoritative monograph on the designer's work, a man considered one of the founders of the Scandinavian Modern design style who 30 years as the chief designer at Dansk.

Quistgaard is known for the tactility of his designs, so we wanted this to translate to the design of the book. The spine is debossed, rounded and varnished to echo the distinctive weaved handles of his Købenstyle pitchers.

The book runs in three distinct parts – an illustrated narrative history of Quistgaard, a portfolio of select designs, and a guide of all of his designs – for which we used a mix of paper stocks  to reflect the change in focus for each section.

Jens Quistgaard is a designer’s book, tightly focussed on materials and construction details. This is apparent from the moment you pick it up, running your fingers over the embossed spine, which is colored and textured like the signature braided plastic wrapping of the Købenstyle pitcher.”
