Anaïs Ca Dao

Anaïs van Manen is a chef and food consultant, whose career has taken her all over the world, from London and Paris to Bogotá and Vietnam.

After years spent working in restaurants, she had countless ideas about what she wanted to do next. We worked with her to create an overarching identity for her to use for all of these, whether that was food consultancy, video content, cookbooks, ingredient packs – the list was endless.

Identity
Wanting to have a distinction between the personal and the professional Anaïs, we opted for using her Vietnamese name – Anaïs Ca Dao – as the basis for the brand.

The identity is built around a beautiful, clean sans-serif typeface that nods to Anaïs' own design background. This was paired with a series of organic symbols derived from the counter of the 'a' in the wordmark, which we used in various configurations across the brand, either as a standalone symbol or to create animated backgrounds and textures.

Website
The website was designed and built so that it could act as an overview of each of Anaïs' projects, whether that was upcoming pop-ups, restaurant collaborations, or press features.

We used the symbols that we had created as a varying animated background across the site, mixed with more atmospheric video backgrounds on the homepage.

An evolving brand
Anaïs wanted the Anaïs Ca Dao brand to function as an umbrella for all the projects she wanted to explore in the future, be that recipe books, food products, homewares.

We designed some MVP concepts to demonstrate how the brand could evolve over time, be that as a food product series, or a seasonal collection of cookbooks.

An Ngon
Working with the photographer and videographer Hugo van Manen, Anaïs developed an Instagram show called Ăn Ngon, an informal video series showcasing Vietnamese cuisine.

We extended the identity system to develop the type styling for the opening credits of each episode.
